BIOGRAPHY

Artist Mandy Powell

I was born in Richmond, Virginia and earned my bachelor’s and master’s degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, where I studied Literature, Art, and Early Child Education. Being a part of the VCU culture helped develop my skills as an artist and introduced me to the fine arts community that surrounds the downtown Richmond area. I commissioned several murals in the Richmond area before leaving in 2005 for Germany. While living abroad, I was able to explore and enjoy some of the most amazing museums and historical art, including the Louvre, the Sistine Chapel, and Van Gogh’s Museum. I’ve been an elementary school teacher for 23 years in the states and overseas, while painting as a hobby, using all of my experiences as inspiration. I currently live in Manassas, Virginia with my new husband and two children. I'm part of Prince William Art Society and have pieces on display for the "Pride" exhibition at Open Space Art Gallery in Woodbridge this month.
